Dearly beloved, it is with bittersweet tears I mention Prince and his death in the same sentence.
His many talents along with his style and persona left us breathless and with much awe.
A highly skilled artist and composer of ample songs like – “I Feel For You,” Chaka Khan; “Love Bizarre,” Shelia E; “Little Red Corvette” and my favorite, “When Doves Cry” Prince was a master of his crafts.
Some of his most memorable performances and songs are from the Purple Rain album, yet Prince wrote many songs for other musicians that are just as memorable.
Prince’s life left us with many sweet memories to sing and dance our days and nights away for all of eternity.
From his writing and composing skills while off stage, to his performance skills while on stage, Prince gave his all and the results were astounding.
On March 15, 2004 at George Harrison’s Induction Ceremony to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison and Prince, among others, took stage and played “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
If this all-star tribute performance does not mesmerize you, Prince’s guitar solo at the end will.
Dressed in a red pinstriped black suit, red hat, red pocket square, red open collar shirt and a leopard print guitar strap around his neck, Prince rocked the hall!
In April, Andy Greene of the Rolling Stone wrote, “Prince’s breathtaking guitar solo at the end of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” could be the single greatest musical moment at any Rock Hall induction ceremony in its history.”
Prince worked for a living. Being a composer and performer was his job; it was his career. And based on my observations, he worked hard and he did his job well. Exceptionally well.
Much of what we admire about Prince like his passion, energy, mastery and unique style can be incorporated into our lives.
Think about it. What would your life or business be like if you incorporated some of the following into your plans?
-
- Doing what you love, so your passion and energy flows
- Mastering your crafts
- Branding – yourself, your business, your product
- Giving it your all
- Being you
Hmm, maybe I should walk the talk…
Today, I will practice and work on becoming a master of my craft of creative writing.
I will write a blog, a poem, a tribute to a prince.
The blog is almost done,
A poem is near,
Both a tribute to you, Prince, even though you are no longer here,
With purple tears falling softly,
At last the time has come,
When finally, I see you, I see you laughing in the purple rain.
May you always rest in peace.
– That’s all she wrote!
Prince – June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016.
Love your poem! Your right he did walk the walk and we all could use a little bit more of his creativeness! Just posted about my emotional experience attending Prince last concert, would love it if you check it out! http://www.spanishmossseries.com
